Our trusted Handyperson & Minor Works Service will help you to stay on top of household repairs and DIY. No job is too small – we can help with everything from changing a light bulb or putting up a curtain rail through to more complex jobs such as repairs to fixtures and fittings, small plumbing jobs, joinery and home adaptations.

We understand the importance of getting these jobs done by a contractor you can trust, not only in terms of keeping on top of repairs and maintenance, but also in terms of the peace of mind of getting work done when you need it by someone you can rely on. Our Handyperson & Minor Works Service is delivered by experienced, multi-skilled tradespeople who have all been DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked and carry ID cards.

The Handyperson Service covers the smaller jobs that usually take 2 hours or less to complete. Examples of typical Handyperson jobs include:

  • Remove trip/fall hazards
  • Change light bulbs
  • Improve home security
  • Install energy efficiency measures
  • Fit curtain rails and hang curtains
  • Repair fixtures and fittings
  • Assemble flat pack furniture

We can also complete larger jobs around the home that fall outside the scope of the Handyperson Service – this is where our Minor Works Service comes in.

Examples of Minor Works jobs that we regularly undertake are:

  • Relaying flags and paths to prevent trips/falls
  • Installing ramps (we can fit temporary or permanent ramps)
  • Creating additional steps or remodelling existing steps to improve access
  • Replacing gates and small areas of fencing to improve the security of a property
  • Adding an extra handrail on your staircase to help you get up and down the stairs
  • Fitting grab rails in your bathroom or toilet
  • Lowering cupboards and worktops

There are many other kinds of work that we can do too, please contact us for more information and advice.

What will it cost?

We work hard to keep our service charges to a minimum. Many Handyperson jobs are carried out free of charge under the Integrated Home Improvement Service scheme, with clients just paying for the cost of any materials that are required. Where there is a charge for a Handyperson job, we will always let you know in advance and you can always decide not to have the work done. Where applicable, the hourly rate for the Handyperson Service is £12.50 plus VAT (which is currently £15 per hour inclusive of VAT). We expect that most Handyperson jobs will take 2 hours or less to complete.

If the work required falls outside the scope of the Handyperson Service, we will provide an individual quotation under our Minor Works Service. One of our Technicians will visit the home, assess what work is required and offer recommendations. We will provide a no obligation quote with details of the work requested,  which is subject to a 14 day cooling-off period on acceptance. We always recommend you get more than one quote for any work.

Casestudy (Handyperson Service)

Mrs B is 88 years old and lives alone in her family home. She has used our Handyperson Service for many years. On one visit, our Technician was talking to Mrs B and she mentioned that she’d had a couple of falls at the front door, one quite bad that meant she had to go to A&E. During the conversation, our Technician realised that one of the triggers for the falls was bending down to pick up the milk from the doorstep; so he put up a small shelf for the milkman to leave the milk on and she doesn’t have to bend down any more. Mrs B says she hasn’t fallen at the front door since. The cost of the shelf was just a few pounds, but the potential savings from preventing further falls is enormous.

Casestudy (Minor Works Service)

Mr S is 84. He has multiple long term conditions that affect his mobility and struggles with stairs. Mr S contacted us about having a rail installed at his daughter’s house so he can manage the steps outside the property when he visits. Our Healthy Homes Manager visited the property and provided a quote for the work. The family accepted the quote and agreed for the recommended work to be completed. Mr S can now safely navigate the steps at his daughters and feels much safer when visiting.
